The Jim Nantz and Tony Romo pairing once felt like a shooting star acro s the NFL broadcast landscape.  Now, it feels a bit more like a comet plummeting toward earth.  The No. 1 duo at CBS still gets all the biggest games the network has, based on their status as the top team.  But are they the best team CBS has to offer? It doesn't feel that way too often anymore.  MORE:  After the AFC Championship Game between the and on Sunday, broke down their performance.  And how's this for an encouraging headline:  "Tony Romo and Jim Nantz were unremarkable. That's a win for CBS these days."  Marchand revisited how on the ' winning touchdown in the Super Bowl two years ago, Romo wouldn't stop talking over the moment.  He also mentioned how on the crucial Dalton Kincaid drop in the AFC title game a season ago, Nantz butchered the moment.  And while it wasn D.J. Augustin Jersey 't an easy one, Marchand didn't think the crew handled the Jarrett Stidham intentional grounding-turned-fumble well on Sunday, either.  "(After the play) they moved on and really didnt revisit it in full," Marchand wrote, then added tongue-in-cheek, "It basically only determined who was in the Super Bowl."  The No. 2 CBS crew, Ian Eagle and J.J. Watt, got a lot more praise this season.  "Meanwhile, after about nine minutes into Ian Eagle and J.J. Watts first game this season for CBS, the duo had instant chemistry," Marchand writes. "CBS Sports president David Berson moved the future Hall of Famer, Watt, from the studio into the booth this year, resulting in Eagle and Watt performing way better than Nantz and Romo. It is a looming backdrop for the Nantz and Romo team going forward. Romo has four years and $72 million owed to him on his 10-year, $180 million deal, which is almost definitely way too much to even consider buying him out. If money and egos werent involved, CBS would have to strongly consider promoting Eagle and Watt to the No. 1 spot and demoting Nantz and Romo."  MORE:  NBC has this year's Super Bowl.  ABC and ESPN have it next year.  For CBS, the 2028 Super Bowl looms, and they'll have to decide what to do.  "In two years, Nantz and Romo are scheduled to call the Super Bowl again for CBS," Marchand writes. "Unle s the performance changes between now and then, CBS will be much more nervous than NBC or ABC/ESPN. Sunday wasnt great for Nantz and Romo. It also wasnt terrible. The dull ending gave the duo an easier landing, as opposed to the prior two years. These days, thats a win for CBS."  More NFL news:  Jordan Bone Jersey
