Pete Alonso trips over own bat in bizarre Mets rally-killing double play

The Mets had already knocked in a run in the first inning on Wednesday night against the Brewers and were primed for more.  But Pete Alonso killed a rally with a bizarre double play where he barely got halfway down the first-base line because of his own bat in the in the NL Wild Card Series at American Family Field.  With runners on the corners and one out, Alonso, the Mets All-Star, hit a 110.1 mph ground ball to Brewers shortstop Willy Adames, who helped turn into a routine double play with Alonso barely getting down the  Willy Hernangomez Jersey line.  The reason why?  Pete Alonso tripped over his own bat during Game 2.  Explore More  Pete Alonso hit into an inning-ending double play.  Alonso, after putting his bat down, tripped over it with his right foot an fell down head-first into the dirt.  It was a bizarre end to the inning, one in which the Brewers answered right back with a Jackson Chourio leadoff homer in the bottom half.  The Mets, though, scored two in the second to move up 3-1, though they could not hold the lead, giving up three runs in the eighth inning.  Alonso finished 1-for-4 with a single.  Jaxson Hayes Jersey
