The Western Divisions playoff picture is extremely competitive. The Dallas Stars are clinging to the third spot in the Central Division, but the Colorado Avalanche are hot on their heels. Since , the Stars have suffered offensively. In games without Seguin,  down by five spots and .43 goals per game from before Seguins injury. Their powerplay was bad to begin with, but it fell from to .  So, it comes as no surprise that the Stars are searching for a player to replace Seguins offensive production. . Seguin is likely to mi s the remainder of the regular season, so the Stars will be able to place him on Long Term Injured Bill White Jersey  Reserve, and will then have over $10 million in salary cap space.  , and hes been . Nelson is on an expiring contract worth $6 million per year, and if he doesnt sign an extension to stay in New York, the Islanders will almost certainly move him at or before the trade deadline on March 7th. Nelson is playing his 12th season in the NHL, and has 552 points in 880 games.  Why it would work  Brock Nelson scores goals, and he scores almost all of them at even strength. Hes scored 117 goals since the 2021-2022 season, and only 27 of them have come on the powerplay. Nelson also plays on the penalty kill, and two of his 10 goals this year have come shorthanded. Hes a very versatile player, and could slot in anywhere on this Stars lineup.  Why it wouldnt work  If the Stars acquired Brock Nelson, its highly unlikely that he would be anything more than a rental. Nelson is 33, and probably set to make more money than Dallas is willing to pay, especially with 21 year old Wyatt Johnston and 26 year old star goaltender Jake Oettinger both set to become RFAs this summer. But New York will have plenty of suitors for Nelson, and Stars General Manager Jim Nill might not want to pay the price that the Islanders are asking.  What it would cost  Brock Nelson has had three consecutive 30-goal campaigns. That kind of scoring wont come cheap. , and that probably wouldnt be the end of it. Id imagine that Dallas would have to pony up a young player or prospect in addition to a first-rounder. But if the Stars are going all-in this year to try and win the Stanley Cup, Nelson would be a strong addition to their team.  Stan Mikita Jersey
